is a neighbourhood of Mississauga
to the west of Toronto and north of Oakville
. Its western boundary is the Credit River
, and it runs diagonally south between the 403 to the QEW expressway, eastwards to Mavis Road.
Original European settlers bought the land of Erindale
from the Mississauga Indians and developed mills along the Credit River
. A major military road was named Dundas Street
after the British Secretary-at-War, and the village grew up around it. The village went through various name changes, until finally becoming Erindale
in the early 1900’s, a reflection of the large number of Irish immigrants to the area.
Development of Erindale
as a suburb of Toronto really began in the late 1950’s when Erindale Woods
was built north of Dundas Street
. Starting in the 1960’s the large Erin Mills
neighbourhood was developed. Other neighbourhoods within Erindale include Huron Park
, South Millway
, Sherwood Forest
and Sawmill Valley
. In 1967, the University of Toronto
built the 225-acre Mississauga campus
, its second largest, on the banks of the Credit River in Erindale

. Prices remain quite affordable
, and it is an established family neighbourhood
. However, there are large custom-built luxury homes
along the Credit River, taking advantage of the views. There is also a mix of low and high rise condominiums

schools, Holy Name of Mary College School, Bronte College and Meadow Green Academy private schools
, and Woodlands, a combined elementary and secondary school of the Peel-Dufferin School Board
that features ESL, Peer-Assisted Learning and programs for gifted children.

, is the largest in Mississauga at 225 hectares. Besides picnics, barbeques, bird-watching and a playground area, the David Culham Trail provides spectacular views of the Credit River for hikers, joggers, cyclists, and cross-country skiers. Golfers are a few minutes from both the Credit Valley Golf and Country Club
